Peruvian financial planner & advisor Elaine King, CFP® highlights the importance of female leadership in the world of finance.

Traditionally, the management of finances at both a macro and micro level, whether personal or family, has been associated with the male role, not to mention that women can play an essential role in this by having a comprehensive vision of reality. This is the case of Elaine King, the Peruvian living in the United States who has been recognized among the '10 best financial advisors' in the Anglo-Saxon country, in addition to the distinction made by People Magazine by naming her as one of the 25 most influential Hispanic women.

But why is the role of women crucial in these contexts? In the words of Elaine King herself, different points of view are needed to help clients, “and women bring a holistic vision to finances that will be very impactful in the long term.” In the past, in many countries in the region, the role of women had always been associated only with the management of the family’s economy, without considering that many of these successful experiences could be extrapolated to more complex areas.

Although even today only 19% of women are in the field of finance, Elaine King precisely wants to show the world that it is now when women can play a greater role in contributing to stabilizing the financial system. Not in vain, she actively participates in forums, congresses, seminars and conferences, such as the CFP Board's Diversity Summit, in Washington D.C., where she empowers other women to also become increasingly involved in financial matters.

In addition, King has recently become a Fellow of the Family Firm Institute (FFI), in New York (United States), the most prestigious professional recognition of this firm. This is due to the great impact achieved by her, not only in terms of effectiveness in family finances, but also for her social contribution and for being an inspiration for other women in the Spanish-speaking world. Elaine addresses aspects such as financial education, financial literacy, financial planning, economic trends, family empowerment and prosperity, among others.

Likewise, Elaine King recently participated as a speaker at the Annual Conference of the Institute for Family Governance (IGF), held in December 2023 in Miami, United States. There she had the opportunity to exchange innovative ideas about the world of finance and family dynamics with leading professionals in the sector and representatives of family businesses.

Finance with a social purpose for children

Elaine King, who is also a board member of the Financial Educators Council, of Florida (United States), not only targets family enterprises with her financial planning advice, but also aims to democratize finances and financial planning throughout society, starting from of the youngest ones. That's precisely why she has just published her book Saltarín, with which she teaches children to be responsible with their money. This, in turn, has a “domino effect” on parents, as it lays the foundations for healthy financial growth in the family as a unit.

The book has been launched at the prestigious “Ricardo Palma” Book Fair, in Lima (Peru), and also as part of the series of outstanding presentations carried out by the National Comprehensive Program for Family Welfare (INABIF), also in Lima.
